DYES: MarblingMarbling is a printing process that takes an image up from a bed of size onto paper or cloth. Endpapers in old books were often marbled; also silk scarves and note paper. Golden Fluid Acrylics with our Methyl-Cellulose give easy, finely detailed, controllable prints on fabric. Paper will also take prints, but results may not be as intense. Use Alum to pre-treat fiber, to prepare it to better accept pigment (a mordanting process). |
MARBLING STARTER SET This set has four colors of Golden Fluid
Acrylics, 4 ounces of marbling size, 4 ounces of alum, bamboo stirring
sticks, a comb for swirling, and complete instructions. You will need
a flat pan to work in and cloth or paper to marble on.
METHYL CELLULOSE Not all methyl-cellulose is created equal. For marbling,
this is the good stuff.
An oz of methyl-cel makes about a gallon of size. For marbling paints,
we recommend the Golden Fluid Acrylics.
CARRAGEENAN
Marbling medium derived from seaweed. Mix with warm water, about 2 tablespoons
to a gallon. Sold in 4 and 8 ounce packs.
