CANDLEMAKING: Wicks & Dyes
TUBULAR BRAID CANDLE WICKS
Made from 100% natural cotton, bleached to remove oils that might
impede wicking action. Always use real wick: plied cord, non-cottons,
even flat braids will not work properly. And use the correct size.
It is helpful to dip any wick in melted wax before using, so that
when the candle is lit the un-saturated wick is not immediately consumed.
We sell two tubular braided cotton wicks, one soft and one with a
non-lead metal core. Wire core wick works well for any candle, but
is especially useful for votive candles or any candle whose wick goes
in after the wax has been poured. |

size
Since candles are not always round in cross-section,
the diameter cannot always be figured exactly. Approximately is
good enough. A thicker wick burns down a bigger circle of wax, consider
whether you want a shell or no wax left as your candle burns. Wicks
are listed thinner to thicker. This chart is for paraffin
or beeswax. Soy wax is much stickier - go up about one size when
you chose your wick. |

WICK BASES
To hold the wick bottom in the candle center.
LAMP WICK
For lamps, not candles. Made from 100% natural cotton. We carry two kinds,
in several sizes. The round wick has a thick roving core and a braided
exterior. The flat wick is a woven tape. Both are availble by the yard
or on spools.
CANDLE DYES
Full-saturation oil-base pigment dissolved in wax cake. One approximately
half-ounce cake dyes from 530 pounds of wax. Colors may be mixed in any
proportions.
METALLIC CANDLE DYES
These mix with undyed wax to coat the outside of a candle. Dont use them
to dye a candle through-out; it will not burn well (or at all). We have
three colors, in approximately two-thirds ounce cakes. Mix one cake with
a pound of paraffin to make a metallic dip. Basic instructions available
with order.
